A physiatrist is a medical doctor with extensive training in the dysfunction of physical movement. Physiatrists aim to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life for people with physical impairments or disabilities that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.

Physiatrists are different from physical therapists who may execute rehabilitative therapies on one or more areas of the body.
