Palliative Care patientsIs palliative care the same as hospice?
Palliative Care is not the same as hospice. It is a medical specialty available at ANY stage of a person’s serious illness. It adds an extra layer of care and support to help manage pain and other symptoms, and assist with ongoing discussions of goals of care. Hospice care is available to patients who have progressed to the end-stages of an illness, curative efforts are no longer helping, and goals have shifted to comfort and supportive care.
Is palliative care covered by insurance?
Since your treatment will be under the direction of a palliative medicine specialist, Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance plans will cover costs. However, as with all insurance plans, please make sure to check with your carrier about pre-authorizations, deductibles, and co-pays.
Does palliative care replace my current treatment or require me to change doctors?
The doctors you have now will continue to direct your care and our team will work in partnership with all of your current providers.
