In this procedure, a sling is placed under the urethra. The sling is a thin strip of polypropylene, a type of mesh that's commonly used in a variety of surgeries. The mesh is placed near the urethra through a small incision in the vagina, with no abdominal incisions needed. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis. Despite recent negative media attention, the urethral sling remains one of the safest and most effective procedures available to restore continence. Please talk to your doctor to determine if this procedure is right for you.
