If your child shows signs of having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), your family medicine doctor can make a diagnosis or refer you to the appropriate specialist. It is important to rule out medical problems that may cause behavior similar to ADHD, such as middle ear infections, seizures, a learning disability, anxiety or depression. Once a diagnosis is made, treatment may consist of behavioral therapy or medications.
