Injectables can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. While BOTOX® is the best-known injectable, there are other options as well.

BOTOX®
BOTOX® is a prescription injection that's used to reduce the appearance of frown lines. BOTOX® injections are the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure performed in the U.S. It works by reducing the muscle activity that creates deep lines in the forehead. These lines are not only aging, but can also make people look tired or angry. Relaxing these lines restores a softer, more rested and youthful appearance.

As with any procedure, the results will vary, but most patients see a marked improvement within days, followed by gradual, continued improvement over the course of approximately a month. The treatments generally remain effective for up to four months, at which time repeated injections are needed to maintain the results.

Dysport®
Dysport® is an injectable treatment that's very similar to BOTOX®. It works by relaxing the muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles. Initial reports show that some patients may see faster results with Dysport® - within one to two days, compared to three to five days for BOTOX®. The results may be longer-lasting as well, though the outcome for each patient will vary. However, some patients may develop antibodies that prevent Dysport® from working effectively. Dr. Yearsley can determine which injectable treatment is a better option for you.

XEOMIN®
XEOMIN® is another injectable treatment similar to both BOTOX® and Dysport®. It’s the latest neurotoxin for treatment of movement disorders and spasticity. XEOMIN® is a prescription medicine that Dr. Yearsley injects into muscles and is used to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, and abnormal spasm of the eyelids (blepharospasm) in adults who have had prior treatment with onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®).

When you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. As your skin ages, and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent frown lines.

Neurotoxins, such as XEOMIN®, are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals and soften frown lines. XEOMIN® is clinically proven to temporarily reduce frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

Patients may see visible smoothing results as early as 3-4 days after treatment. The maximum effect occurs at 30 days on average. Typically, the treatment has lasting effects for up to 3 months, but the results may vary, lasting significantly longer or shorter in individual patients. Because XEOMIN® is temporary, repeated injections are needed to maintain the results.
