NDPERS Changes Group Health Plan Carrier Effective July 1, 2015. Mid Dakota Clinic Providers Remain in PPO Network.
The North Dakota Public Employees Retirement System (NDPERS) recently announced that the contract for the NDPERS administered group health plan was awarded to Sanford Health Plan (SHP) for the 2015-2017 biennium, after being held by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) for the past 37 years. The health plan contract with SHP takes effect on July 1, 2015.

Sanford Health Plan (SHP) should not be confused with Sanford hospitals and clinics. SHP is an insurance underwriter which, in short, means it will process NDPERS members' health insurance claims and provide corresponding customer service. The NDPERS Board has maintained that NDPERS members will be able to use their current medical providers under the existing Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) arrangement, and can be confident that the plan's benefits will continue.

At Mid Dakota Clinic, we value each of our patients and are grateful that NDPERS members have allowed us to be a part of their healthcare team. We are taking this opportunity, in addition to other communications that may have gone out, to assure them that all Mid Dakota Clinic doctors, practitioners and facilities are in fact Sanford Health Plan participating providers. The only change that will be encountered within our clinics beginning July 1, is the need to update insurance information so that claims may be filed to the proper carrier. NDPERS members are asked to bring newly issued SHP insurance cards to their first appointment so this information may be obtained.
