Dr. Derek Kane Receives Benedictine Spirit Award
Mid Dakota Clinic extends our congratulations to Derek Kane, MD, FACS, for being the recipient of CHI St. Alexius Health's 2016 Benedictine Spirit Award. The award, which is presented annually to a physician who provides distinguished service to patients and upholds the mission and values outlined by the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery, was presented to Dr. Kane during CHI St. Alexius Health's Doctors' Day luncheon on March 30. 

 

For nearly eight years, Dr. Kane has contributed to the growth and well-being of CHI St. Alexius Health and has been a leader in bringing new procedures and technology to general surgery and trauma cases. Dr. Kane practices general surgery at Mid Dakota Clinic and serves on several CHI St. Alexius Health medical staff committees including; vice president medical executive committee, director of trauma services, and is a member of the peer review, emergency management and utilization review committees. His vast experience and training have enabled him to be a part of teaching medical students and residents.

Dr. Kane earned his medical degree from Rush University, Chicago, Ill. and went on to complete a residency in general surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wis. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). In addition to his committee work with CHI St. Alexius Health, Dr. Kane serves as vice chairman of the ND State Trauma Committee and president of the ND Chapter of American College of Surgeons. He holds professional membership with Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, American Society of Breast Surgeons, and Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma.
